As government policy on the war-torn region was savaged by all sides, Downing Street announced that the Prime Minister would make a 'major speech' on the issue tomorrow. Quote Forum Message

Another soldier killed today. All the crap about making Britain etc a safer place is absolute B*******. We should let them stew in their own juices and get the lads home. I don't understand how these politicians manage to sleep at night.Quote Forum Message

Who said this about Afghanistan???

"

The inhabitants of these wild but wealthy valleys are of many tribes, but of similar character and condition. The abundant crops which a warm sun and copious rains raise from a fertile soil, support a numerous population in a state of warlike leisure. Except at the times of sowing and of harvest, a continual state of feud and strife prevails throughout the land. Tribe wars with tribe. The people of one valley fight with those of the next. To the quarrels of communities are added the combats of individuals. Khan assails khan, each supported by his retainers. Every tribesman has a blood feud with his neighbor. Every man's hand is against the other, and all against the stranger.

Nor are these struggles conducted with the weapons which usually belong to the races of such development. To the ferocity of the Zulu are added the craft of the Redskin and the marksmanship of the Boer. The world is presented with that grim spectacle, "the strength of civilisation without its mercy." At a thousand yards the traveller falls wounded by the well-aimed bullet of a breech-loading rifle. His assailant, approaching, hacks him to death with the ferocity of a South-Sea Islander. The weapons of the nineteenth century are in the hands of the savages of the Stone Age.

Every influence, every motive, that provokes the spirit of murder among men, impels these mountaineers to deeds of treachery and violence."

Winston Churchill! From his first book The Story of the Malakand Field Force: An Episode of Frontier War (1898).

As Pete says "let the bastards rot", how can you fight cowardly bastards that hide in womans clothing.
Put Brown and Co in the front line, they would then think differently.Quote Forum Message

When I first joined the RAF and after about three sessions on the range I was quite competant to clean, fire my weapon and kill people if necessary and I only joined up as an apprentice air radio fitter, 93 entry RAF Locking . So what's the matter with these afgans, are they bloody stupid or something? They are like a lot of countries before them, train them, help them and the bastards just stab you in the back. Bring the lads home, they shouldn't be asked to die for crap!Quote Forum Message

Here here Pete.
It's time to get our soldiers home.
We've tried to help them (god knows why, I can't see them ever stepping in to help any other country if they needed it) and what happens? They kill those trying to help them.
So let them get on with killing each other if that's what they want to do.
Yes I feel for the innocent people who might get caught up in it by I feel far more for all the families who watch their loved ones come home in a box. Quote Forum Message

first off Pete let me say that only an idiot wants war.  That said, there are also times when something has to be done.  It pains me greatly when any soldier is killed or maimed I don't care what country they are from.  " The only thing bad men need to suceed is for good men to do nothing."  (Abe Lincoln)  I don't like war, but we are in one and as I see it we have two options.  We can either fight it to win it or we can loose it.  I spent two tours in Vietnam and in 1968 I watched 109 of my best friends slaughtered like cattle trying to hold onto a worthless hill.  Those brave men gave all the had and then our government (due to pressure from the citizens) gave up making not only my friends, but all those who were killed or maimed, sacrifice worth nothing at all.  They stripped us of our honor and why?  Because those back home who we were fighting for turned thier backs on us just as they are doing now.  It's easy to fight a war when you are laying on a couch watching tv.

Well this has gotten a bit too long and has pulled too may scabs loose so I'm going to stop.  I'll just end it with a simple question.  Do you think for a single moment that any of those brave soldiers who died would have cut and run?

Firstly let me say the guys who faught and died in Vietnam have my greatest respect and sympathy. What politicians need to realise is that that fighting a war against people who don't wear uniforms and in their own backyard is virtually impossible to win.
There are many servicemen and servicewomen plus politicions here in the UK who are speaking out against the war. The government there is totally corrupt and what now is the mission, wander around the country to see if you can find someone to shoot? Most of them are now across in Pakistan, so what next, we go in there. Assuming it was winable, as soon as we left they would all pile back in again so we go back to square one.
Part of the reason the public loose faith is because they realise the government of the day lied to them about the reasons for the war in the first place.Quote Forum Message

As the wife of an active duty member of the us army I'm going to say what I have said to many a person face to face...you don't have to support the war to support the service member. Any life lost is a loss, from my country or any other. My prayers go out to the families of all the fallen.
Just to put a bit of a spin on this so that maybe there is some perspective...my grandmothers boyfriend, who is scottish(lives there 6 month out of the year) pulled out a picture of his father, dressed in uniform, and asked if my husband or I had any idea where he was standing...he was in afghanistan. This isn't a middle east vs. america thing nor is it something that started 9/11/01.Afghanistan has been a global issue since before most of us were born. Hallelujah!! (If we are allowed to say that!) SOMEONE who has realised that it is nothing to do with 9/11 or the London Bombings!

Google Winston Churchill, he wrote the same thing in a book which he wrote back in 1898!!

So WHY are we still in Afghanistan then???? It was said on TV last night that ALL the recent bomb plots in the UK have originated in the UK, not Afghanistan or Pakistan!

Also, the conflict in Afghanistan has now gone on for LONGER than World War 2Quote Forum Message
