You know what, this makes my blood boil!!
Yesterday, 5 BRITISH soldiers were gunned down by an Afghani policeman (ok he was Taliban) in cold blood, one of the soldiers was 18 years old, and I bet that did not get reported in the good ole US of A did it!!

Today, ANOTHER British Soldier has been killed fighting a war that we should not be involved in!

If you want to go and kill the sodding taliban, do it yourselves!

We had sod all to do with 9/11, it wasnt us who flews Bin Ladens family out of the US the day after it happened.
It wasnt us who trained Bin Laden
It wasnt us who put Saddam in Power,
but its our bloody troops getting killed!

There is a town in Wiltshire near where I live called Wootton Bassett. Every week there is a funeral cortege goes through the town and everyone lines the streets as yet another young lad goes through in a box.

And yet, someone at an army base loses it and the whole world has to bow down and weep!!

Think about what the USA's war in Afghanistan is affecting families outside your shores for once!

Rant over!

Both the United States Senate, and the United States Congress have held a moment of silence on the floor. President Obama has also addressed the shooting moments ago on Live TV.

From the military press conference just now:

The shooter, who was said to have been killed at the scene after shooting some 40+ people, and killing 12, is NOT dead, and is in the hospital.

My families thoughts and prayers are with these soldiers their families and brave civilian police office that put down the shooter.

By the way.  During the first Gulf War I was a section chief (Army SFC) in a mobile version of the US Army's Soldier Readiness Center.  As a fast moving mobile unit our battalion was stationed in another strategic location to support Desert Storm.

The act perpetrated by this Major was stone cold murder.  According to the 10 PM news this bastard and thank God the civilian Police Woman who brought him down are alive and expected to recover.  I hope he is tried to the fullest extend of the US Military's Justice System.

Attached is the latest update as of 10:12 PM CDT on the situation.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_fort_hood_shooting

God bless all of our service men and women along with their dear families.  I can testify tot the importance of having the love and support of a strong wife (or husband).  While away doing my duty my dear wife held fast proved herself a hero to me and our family.

God Bless America!

What Spam??? How can a listing of dead British Soldiers be classed as Spam??

The Definition of Spam
The word "Spam" as applied to Email means Unsolicited Bulk Email ("UBE").

Unsolicited means that the Recipient has not granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Bulk means that the
message is sent as part of a larger collection of messages, all having substantively identical content.

A message is Spam only if it is both Unsolicited and Bulk.

-
Unsolicited Email is normal email
(examples: first contact enquiries, job enquiries, sales enquiries)

-
Bulk Email is normal email
(examples: subscriber newsletters, customer communications, discussion lists)

Technical Definition of Spam

An electronic message is "spam" IF:

(1)
the recipient's personal identity and context are irrelevant because the message is equally applicable to many other potential recipients;

AND

(2)
the recipient has not verifiably granted deliberate, explicit, and still-revocable permission for it to be sent.

My point was (and I do admit to being slightly annoyed at tghe news that yet another British Soldier was killed yesterday - and that Gordon Brown is now criticising Karzai after last week congratulating him on his 'Election' success..), that yes, OK it is bad that this guy has lost it and killed 12 people, BUT it now seems that he had been taunted because of his religion and was down to be deployed to Afghanistan, which he was against, but the thing was that it is worldwide news if something like that happens to any US citizens, but tell me, do YOU get news reports and images like THIS every week from the same town like we do in the UK???

I apologise if my comments were out of line last night, but we are suffering in the UK as well you know, and its NOT our war!!!

This has nothing at all to do with 9/11, and if we pulled out we will not be bombed into oblivion. Afghanistan is made up of tribes, they will never ever stop fighting between themselves, they dont want the West there, so why the hell do we insist on making them into a 'Democracy' when they dont want it????

Paul ~ you sound like you really despise America here. This breaks my heart, because I love my country and I feel like you must despise me too. I am sorry for the loss your country is taking. I am sorry for the loss we are all suffering in this war. I am sorry for the victims of this shooting. I don't give a rats @ss if someone taunted him!!!!! That gives him no right to do what he did!! Have you never been taunted or teased? Seriously!!!! We have all been taunted or made fun of over something in our lives, did we go get a gun and start killing everyone? NO!!!! Always an excuse for the psycho who does this kind of thing! I am sorry, but there is no excuse! Quote Forum Message

We don't get enough of the UK news and the UK gets TOO MUCH of the US news.

I agree with Scarlett ... and feel sorry for this shooter about as much as I felt sorry for poor Tim McVeigh.

This is a much different situation than soldiers on the ground in Afghanistan who are, of course, in a hostile situation.  Paul, you can't compare the two situations.

You want the UK safe from suicide bombers on busses, but you don't want the military out working to contain terrorism on its own homeground.  The media plays to people like you and you lap it up like a saucer of milk.

Paul its spam because it has nothing to do with this thread. We had a mass murder on our soil yesterday, and 31 other people are now fighting for their lives in the hospital. You come into this thread and respond with anger about british soldiers being killed in afghanistan. What in the world does that have to do with the murder incident I started this thread with??? It is entirely unrelated. If you are angry and want to voice your opinion on the afghanistan war and its impacts on your country, then make your own thread doing so, dont junk mine up with it, and start fights. Its very disrespectful to the situation.Quote Forum Message

People can comment however they please in a 'coffee shop' thread.  You continue to try to control what people should and should not add to a thread.  The person who starts a thread does not OWN the thread; the starter of a thread does not have to agree with comments, or like them, but each person is entitled to contribute as they feel led.  Live with it.  Quote Forum Message

Whats really a shame is that even in the loss of life like has happend here, that we cant even drop the immature attempts to constantly attack people on the forums. No condolences for those involved, no words of comfort and support to those who live in texas, but an attack on the OP for attempting to keep the post on topic. I am really dissapointed with the insensitivity on display here. Its almost disgusting.

Id like to apologize to those who have PM'd me regarding this thread, and the course it has taken. There are some people on the site who have been affected by this tragedy, and I want them to know that despite the immaturity on display in the thread, many of us here do very much so offer our condolences.

Ok people, I think it's time that everyone started being a bit more respectful to each other.
It's starting to get to me that everyone keeps arguing and making it personal - I get enough of that at home! I come on here to get away from it and now all I see is 'ooooh, you said this and you said that' and 'you're a flaming liberal' and 'Margaret Thatcher was a bitch' and so on.
It's fine to debate but the art of debating is to not get personal or throw insults at one another and also to take into account what someone else says.

For what it's worth, I can see where Paul was coming from and I agree to an extent. We lost 5 British soldiers in a scenario when they were trying to help the Afghan people. No one in America hears about it. Then there's the shooting at Fort Hood and suddenly the whole world is expected to come to a standstill over it and mourn the deceased.
Do I think that's off topic? No, I don't it was just a response to what was posted.
Yes, it's a terrible, terrible tragedy. I cannot even begin to think what the families of those killed must be going through. I would imagine they were worried enough about their loved ones being deployed to Afghanistan and now, they have been killed on their home turf.
If all they had to worry about right now was what who was saying on a website forum, I'm sure they would be very happy. The truth is, in a few days they will be burying their loved ones.
Tonight, just be grateful it isn't you. Quote Forum Message

Sian's statement should be taken to heart.  I believe my independent posted earlier today is worth repeating.

Dear Friends One and All,
I ask all members, especially those participating in the "Mass Shooting" thread to put aside your differences of opinion regarding this and any other topic.  To all from every nation I ask that we come together as one humanity.  For better or worst the freedom loving nations in this world have always sent their brave military members to help the oppressed.  Any loss of life due to conflict is terrible.

Let us clear our minds and realize what is truly dear to us.  While this massacre at Ft. Hood has ripped at our hearts and souls, the loss of life of any nations brave military men and women are as equally tragic.  As a retired US Army veteran I pray that we come together in honor of the victims of this great tragedy and to the victims of all nations who stand tall for justice and freedom.

In all sincerity and with the greatest respect,
Louis Quote Forum Message

I have one more thing to add that all you hot heads need to understand.

Having been a 20 year veteran I have served along side military comrades from many nations including the UK, a number of nations from Africa, Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Iran. (pre-rebelion, Australia, Denmark, Germany and I'm sure countries that I can't remember at this moment in time.

Now listen and listen good.  It does not make a rats ass difference where a military comrade is from because we are all brothers and sisters in arms.  We are united by an invisible bond that those that have not served most likely do not understand.  An injury or death to one is felt by us all.  The families and friends of those that serve are deserving of our eternal gratitude especially when their loved one has made the ultimate sacrifice or been harmed whether that injury is in the body or mind.

So stop your petty arguments and look at the big picture.  This world we live in is so much more complicated than meets the eye.  It is our job as adults to set an example for younger generations.  I know this is easier said than done sometimes but that is the fact of the matter.

Louis

nothing would have come of this thread if people could learn to stay on point, and stick to the issue at hand. Instead people insist on ignoring the issue, the tragedy that it is, and try to start controversy where it shouldnt be started. Add that to the fact that I have a granny stalking me on the forums now, who i've been told claims to be some big christian, who attempts to take instigate a fight with me every chance she can, and you have this result. I will debate issues as much as anyone in here, but this thread was not about a debate.

If you want this kind of mess to not happen, thenthe admin team will have to step in and do something. When someone goes off topic in a thread, and the OP complains about it, the unrelated posts in the thread need to be deleted. If they are left to sit there, then people will often respond to them, and before you know it we are bickering like this, and the original point of the thread is buried now under immature BS that shouldnt have even happend. I guess im gonna have to start reporting people for every little thing they do that I dont like.....People have been doing that against me since I joined the site.

No I dont despise America at all! And I have removed my so called 'spam'!!!

Its just that we in the UK have had 5 soldiers murdered by an Afghan 'policeman' who thet were training and mentoring (and another soldier killed on Friday), and a US Military guy goes berserk and kills 13 with his own guns? (security missed them??) and its all over the news worldwide!

I would like to know, seriously, if you over in the USA get so much reporting of when UK Soldiers are killed in Afghanistan??

I see Tims has posted another one about someone else shooting up people, is he also in the Military or converted to Islam??

Yesterday in Cornwall, a 59 year old mother of a 17 year old boy who was bullied at school died when a firework was pushed through her letterbox and set fire to the house, she saved her son by pushing him through a window but was killed herself. Did this make the news in the USA??Quote Forum Message

There were a couple of things that got me last week, and Tim's thread just pushed me over the edge!

The first one was the so called 'Election' in Afghanistan which, according to our leader Brown, 'our forces are in Afghanistan until the Elections were completed', ok, they are over now, get them out!

Last week Brown was congratulating Karzai on his successful Election (yeah right!)

Then in the UK news a woman, Ann Ainsworth, who is operations Manager (west) for Derbyshire Libraries banned the sale of Poppies in all the libraries because 'it would not be fair on other Charities' The proceeds from Poppy Sales go to the Royal British Legion to help injures Serviceman.

Then on top of that, street poppy Sellers have been told not to shake their collecting pots in case it frightens people.... (go figure!)

I came through St Pancras and Paddington yesterday, NOT ONE POPPY SELLER COULD BE SEEN!

OK, I cant do anything to stop it (I have bought a poppy and wear a Help for Heroes' wristband), and I apologise to those that thought that I despise Americans, I dont, it was just the straw that broke the camels back!

And Louis, you talk a lot of sense! Just wish some of our leaders would listen! How about Louis P for President!!!!
