Seattle, WA 6/9/2008 3:31:48 AM | As surely all of you have noticed, the Site was down for almost 2 days. The good news first - we seem to be back up and running. Now to the obvious question - what happened?
The short, and rather sad story, is that Friday night I received a call that sweet, old cousin Stewie has passed away. Naturally, then entire family jumped on planes to congregate in Northern California, to help with funeral perparations and comfort each other through the tragic loss. It appears, that sometime on Saturday, Steward's ghost decided to visit EyeFetch, and trip over the network cable at our hosting provider. Any other day, I would have gotten notice within minutes, and the issue would have been solved in minutes. However, given the circumstances, I was completely unreachable except for family, and naturally was preoccupied with dealing with life - and death - than having to worry about EyeFetch.
To conclude this rather chaotic and sad weekend, when I arrived back home, I checked my email and voice messages and immediately found out that EyeFetch had been down. On further investigation with the hosting company, it was found that the primary network cable to the site's main server was mysteriously not working anymore.
Under any other circumstances I would be incredibly upset with the hosting company. But to be honest, this weekend reminded me again that there are things more important in life that a website run as a hobby, and so I say this to you all: Sincere apologies for the very lengthy outage, but please don't be too angry, because there are really more tragic and more important things in life!
And now, back to more happy thoughts - and back to sharing our love for Art, which is just another way of loving life! |

Cloud Cuckoo Land 6/9/2008 4:34:34 AM | I'm very sorry to hear of your loss Para. And of course you are right, this is JUST a website and you must always put your family first and foremost. I spent most of yesterday at the hospital as my father suffered a heart attack, so for the first time ever, I didn't MISS EF. I was too busy worrying about dad. Not to worry though, I have phoned the hospital this morning and he is 'comfortable'. Once again, I am sorry for your loss. |

Is so true!! It is, after all, only a web site, but a brilliant one at that!
And to all of you Admins and Co-Admins, what more can be said than 'Great R10++'!!!
And you never know, the cable could have been pulled to give you a bit of a break from emails and PMS ..... |

Waldport, Oregon 6/9/2008 10:28:47 AM | Very sorry for your loss, and welcome back. Such places as this also keep life 'real' in that it keeps us from spiraling into depression with the news of the day and constant evidence of the frailty of man. Love, friendship and understanding - respect for the life experience of others - can help pull (or push) us along. Many thanks for helping to provide such a place where we can share these experiences. |

I just hope everyone used the time while the site was down to go out and take some great pictures and/or do some editing and reflect on what is really important in life, rather than all the fighting over trivial issues that normally goes on on this site. |
