EyeFetch Groups Introduction
EyeFetch Groups can be created by any registered member. Their purpose is to create smaller "playgrounds" for our members relating to various topics of choice. Each group has it's own set of images, forums, contests and group members. Consider it a "mini-EyeFetch" created and managed by our members. A group can be public or private, and can have one or multiple Group Administrators.
Finding Groups
There are numerous ways across the Site to reach Groups. The easiest is to click the "Groups" link in the "Site Navigator" on the left side of each screen. This will bring you to our Groups Page, which allows you to browse all public groups by category, lists the largest public groups, and shows all groups you are a member of. You can also search for groups on a specific topic or with a specific name through the search box on the top of the Groups Page. If you can't find a group on the topic you are interested in, just create your own, announce it in our forums, and chances are some of our other members will be interested in the same as you and join your group.
Joining Groups
You can join a public group by clicking the "Join This Group" link when opening the group. Some groups are "invitation only" which means that only members of the group can invite new members. If you are member of a private group, you can invite other members by opening their profile and clicking the "Invite Member to a Group" link. Once invited, the member will receive a private message asking to join the group. The message will contain a special link that will allow the member to join the group.
Creating Groups
Everybody can create their own group, and there is currently no limit on the number of groups you can create or be a member of. When creating a group, you need to give the group a name, select a category for the group, give a short description of the groups purpose, and finally decide on a number of settings and rules for the group. As the creator of the group, you will automatically become a Group Administrator for this group (though you can appoint other Administrators also, or even hand off all responsibility if you want to). As a Group Administrator you have a number of additional "powers" within the Group, including the ability to remove images from the group, kick members out of the group, and also set up other group rules, or create group-specific events.
Differences between Public and Private Groups
As the name says, a public group is just that - public. Everybody can see the group, everybody can join it, and everybody can see the images and forum threads posted in the group. Private groups are limited in visibility to only members of the group. This means private groups are "invisible" (i.e. private groups cannot be found through searching). In essence, you can create your own private playground by creating a private group. If you want your group to be completely private, make sure to enable group membership to be "Invite Only".
