A macro of a light bulb's filament just before it heats to full power. This was a 100 watt light bulb. Timing is everything with this shot.
Shot at a superfast ISO800 to stop the filament in mid-burn.
I really like the negative space created by the sensuous curve of the bulb. I thought of this during the light bulb contest but simply didn't have any time to set it up. I hope you like it.
This has a focal length of 130mm on my 75-300mm Tamron macro lens. Used NI and applied an ample amount of USM and saved for web.
If you've never tried to capture a filament at mid-burn, I suggest you try it. I took about 100+ shots to get this one 'perfect' (at least for me) shot :)
I really admire the way you push yourself to try new things. You are fearless.

Amazing. Seriously, amazing. Something so simple, I would never have considered a light bulb as a subject. I will take your advice and try, try, try!
When setting up, how do you not get a bright spot from the actual bulb? Is the dark bg just the wall?
Sorry about all the questions, I really am in awe of your work. So beautiful.
10, wish I could give more.
