Some time in the 1960s, the U. S. Army Football team at West Point,PA had a stand out end named Bill Carpenter from Springfield,PA (outside Philadelphia) and my father, a sports photographer (he later work in TV and NFL Films), was assigned to covered this great pass receiver dubbed "The Lonesome End." (Because he lined up away from the other players -- then unorthodox). My father took this picture of me with his 16 mm camera and Bill Carpenter at West Point. We lived in the same area as Carpenter who later went on to be a hero in Vietnam and the photo appeared in the local daily.
