STOP PRESS: I am delighted to say that my eye now seems well on the way to settling down again after my transplant operation in September 2007. I had the final stitches out in June 08 and since then I have regained what seems to be the full use of it on the computer, and am currently enjoying being able to participate more fully in the various different aspects of the site.
I used to take the standard pics of the children, the holidays, the dog...you know the sort of thing! And I have hundreds of paper envelopes of printed photos that have not been looked at since they were collected from Boots!
Then along came the digital age...
We bought our first digital camera in Tenerife at the end of the last century(!!) and didn't really use it very much for a while.
Then I retired and moved to Spain. I took up painting, as I had always said that I would, and began using the camera to take reference shots...and then I discovered that the reference shots were becoming as interesting as the art! Because it is cheap and easy I have been snapping away for several years now and I have more than 20,000 images in my folders! A lot of them have been quite heavily edited, in addition to cropping, sharpening, adjusting light levels, etc — I used to use the Microsoft Digital Image Suite, which is very user-friendly and effective but I now have Photoshop CS3. I haven't actually done any hands-on painting for a while, but I do enjoy creating digital art in CS3.
My latest camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50, bought in Tenerife in March 2008, with which I am absolutely delighted. The Leica lens is a joy and the 12x zoom just puts me so much more 'in the picture'! I also have a flashgun and a remote shutter release, so I am trying out 'proper' portrait shots...
And it is all so much fun!
