Contest Rules - Photography: Advanced Editing
Last Update: 12/28/06
All contest entries must comply with our Terms of Use. Disqualifications are based on the interpretation of these rules by the Eyefetch Administrators.
For our photography contests, we only accept photographs taken with a digital camera with EXIF support (most digital cameras do)!
Image Format
- Photo Exposure Date: Some contests require that digital photographs submitted for the contest must be taken between the start and end date of the open contest submission period. Your camera's date and time must be set correctly to your local timezone. Contest deadlines correspond to the US Eastern timezone - the current local server time is visible in the top left corner of each page. Verification of the authenticity of the exposure, and the correct date and time of exposure may be requested for any submitted entry, and must be provided by submitting the original, unmodified image from the camera containing all unaltered EXIF data. Failure to provide the file in question within 72 hours from request will result in automatic disqualification.
- Please make sure to check that the date and time on your camera are set correctly before taking any pictures you may use as a contest entry for such contests.
Editing & Submission Rules
Eyefetch offers photography contests with various levels of permitted post-processing (editing). The following rules apply for 'Advanced Editing' contests:
- Any modifications done inside the camera itself are considered acceptable for contest submission.
- By submitting an image to a contest you grant EyeFetch the perpetual right to display the contest entry on its websites.
- The submitted image must represent a single photograph, taken during the contest submission period. You may not combine multiple photographs, or elements from mulitple photographs. Photographs containing multiple exposures are only allowed when stored directly within the camera into a single photograph.
- A person may only hold a single Eyefetch account and may submit only one photograph per contest.
- Any adjustments applied in photo editing software (or similar tools) are allowed (applied to the whole image, or selective parts), with the following exceptions:
- Disallowed: Use of any editing tools to duplicate, create, or move major elements of your photograph is not permitted.
- Disallowed: Addition of a border that contains parts of other photographs, clip arts, other artwork or any text.
- Disallowed: Addition of any text to the image (except copyright statements). While copyright statements are allowed, we highly discourage their use in contests, as it affects the anonymity of the entry and hence the potential outcome of the ranking of the submitted image.
Subject Matter
The subject matter of the submitted photograph must comply with the Eyefetch Terms of Use. Additionally, the following restrictions apply:
- Please keep in mind that this is a family-friendly site! Nudity is acceptable, as long as presented in a tasteful manner. Photographs may not contain depictions of sex or material that would be considered 'sexually pornographic' by a reasonable viewer.
- Photographic representations of existing works of art (including your own) may not be submitted, unless they are not the primary subject matter of the photograph, or they are depicted in a creative way that does not cause the voters to vote on the depicted artwork, but on the merits of the photographer's artistic skill. This includes, but is not limited to, other photographs, paintings, drawings, sculptures, computer images and artwork, computer monitors and televisions.
Voting
- A user will not be able to vote on his or her own entry.
- We enforce a strict policy against fraudulent accounts and ghost ballots. Any attempt in deceiving Eyefetch or its members to unfairly influence the outcome of a contest will result in immediate ban from the site.
- Any users whose voting pattern suggest an intent to unfairly disrupt the system will be excluded from contest voting, and my be banned from the site.
- Photographs by any parties participating in fraudulent or deceiving actions may be removed from past or current contests.
Photo Validation
- Verification of the authenticity of the exposure, and the correct date and time of exposure may be requested for any submitted entry, and must be provided by submitting the original, unmodified, direct-from-camera file containing all unaltered EXIF data. Failure to provide the file in question within 72 hours from request will result in automatic disqualification.
- Typically, we will request validation for the winner of the contest, as well as a number of other entries
- When a validation is requested an email will be sent to your email address on file. The email will provide you with instructions on how to submit your unedited original and your editing steps. This information must be submitted within 72 hours of the time the request is made.
